The Annapurna region undoubtedly provides some of the world's best trekking routes, with its great variety of scenery and culture. Tilicho Lake is world highest lake has situated at an altitude of 4,919m in the scenic Manang valley attached with Annapurna and Thorong Peak. This rugged and picturesque trail goes past the crystal-clear lake Tilicho, dotted wild flowers, and spectacular Himalayan panoramas. The trek gives magnificent views of major peaks of Annapurna Himalayan range - Lamjung Himal 6932m, Annapurna II 7939m, Annapurna IV 7525m, Annapurna III 7555m, Gangapurna 7454m and other snow-capped peaks. The place is rich with the wide range of people and terrain, sub-tropical to high, dry landscape resembling the Tibetan Plateau. The trail leads you to the fine village inhabited by a wide diversity of people from different ethnic groups. In 2001, Hindu pilgrims from around the world flocked to the lake convinced it is a holy spot mentioned in the Ramayan – a holy book of the Hindus. Though trekking Tilicho Lake is a challenging trekking route it is definitely one of the finest trekking routes in the Annapurna region.
Tilicho Lake trekking starts from Besisahar, which goes along the Marshyangdi River. During initial days of the trek, the trail shows up magnificent views of Manaslu and HimChuli along cultural insights in a village inhabited by various ethnic groups. Trails are quite similar like of Annapurna Circuit Trekking with few customizations. Every day we will see the different landscapes as the trail start from subtropical climate and end at the snow line. For the lovers of nature it a magnificent and real opportunity to see a lake at this altitude and also it is famous for the religious point of view. The trip to Tilicho Lake is a perfect package to witness natural scenery, and learn about the unique culture in this region. The best season for a journey to this region is February to May and September to November.
Itinerary

Upon arrival at Tribhuwan International Airport, you will be taken to the hotel. After the resting you will be provided with the briefing off the overall tour.
We will travel by road from Kathmandu to Chamje village which will be the starting point of the trek. Chamje is a small village in the Annapurna Region at an elevation of 1430 m. During our journey, we can enjoy the natural sceneries and observe the daily activities of the local people. Overnight stay in Chamje.
Today, it takes about 6 hours to get to our destination. We continue our trek along rhododendron, bamboo and pine forest, pass through Kodo village and walk on the trail that rises and falls and cuts across a mountain side to reach one of the biggest villages in the Manang district, Dharapani. Overnight stay in Dharapani.
You climb through forests of pine and oak as you pass through Danaque (2210m). Soon, there comes a small wooden bridge that will take you on a steeply ascending path up to Timang which lies at the bottom of Lamjung Himal. The trail climbs along the mule track through in and fir forest and then follows the river for a time amongst the higher oak and maple trees. We will have great panoramic views of Annapurna II 7939m, Annapurna IV 7525m and Lamjung Himal 6983m during our trek that leads us to Chame where will stay for the night.
We will ascend towards the field of buckwheat and reach Telekhu village (2,840 m). From here, we will trek through dense forest with dramatic sceneries. We walk through a steep and narrow valley to have our first view of Paungda Danda rock face, a dramatic curved rock face rising 1500 m from the river. Continuing on, you come to a long Mani wall by a bridge and the lower village of Pisang. Overnight stay in Pisang.
From upper Pisang, the high trail enters pine grooves to reveal views of the small turquoise lake. The trail does a dogleg through the charming village, passing with views of painted Mandalas and dragon mouth spouts. Spectacular view of Annapurna, Pisang peak, and many other snowcapped peaks adds extra pleasure for today’s walk. As we near Manang, the climate becomes colder and drier. We will be staying in Manang for the night.
We leave Manang, following the trail that demands elevation all the way up to Khangsar. We will go by a path which goes along the Khangsar River. We get to appreciate the natural beauty of the Annapurna range all along the way. Overnight stay in Khangsar.
We follow the trail through various ice lakes and glaciers towards Tilicho Base Camp. During our walk today, we have more chances of seeing wild animals. After trudging down a steep inclination, you now enter the Tilicho Base Camp. From here we can enjoy the closer and panoramic views of Tilicho Mountain and many others. Overnight stay in Tilicho Base Camp.
After the initial tough ascent, our trail to reach Tilicho Lake traverses onto a moraine and then cuts along the side of the mountain. Tilicho Lake is a cold place and is recorded as the lake at highest altitude in the world. Sometimes its turquoise water reflects the surrounding peaks but more often its frozen solid. After spending the memorable time at Tilicho Lake, we will trek down to Tilicho base camp via the same way for an overnight stay.
Today, the trail will ascend out of the Marsyangdi Valley and pass Goths. From here, the vegetation changes and we will see scrub juniper and alpine grasses all around u. Continuing along the Jarsang Khola Valley, we reach Yak Kharka at 4,000m. The typical Himalayan village of Yak Kharka is an accolade to its name, as lots of yaks can be seen grazing and standing around. Overnight stay in Yak Kharka.
It is an uphill walk to Thorang Phedi. From Yak Kharka, the trail climbs along the east bank of the Jarsang Khola, then descends and crosses the stream on a wooden bridge at 4310m. We might see the blue sheep, snow leopards, Himalayan griffons, and large lammergeiers along the way. Overnight stay in Thorang Phedi.
Crossing Thorong La pass, one of the highest passes in the world, will be our ultimate objective today We will start our journey in the early morning at about 4 am so that we can reach Thorang La pass at about 9-10 am. If we delay it then the weather may create some difficulties. We will walk on our own pace viewing with sunrise and glimpse of the mountains. We continuing walking till we reach Throng top which takes 3-4 hours. You can see the long Great Barrier ridge, Tibet like region of Manang, as well as the Annapurna, Gangapurna and the heavily glaciated peak of Khatung Kang (6484m). After this it take some 4 hours more to reach the holy place - Muktinath. Overnight in Muktinath.
Today, we wake up early to the marvelous sounds of temple bells and visit the famous pilgrimage center to Muktinath Temple area. On our way to Jomom, we will go through some caves, meadows, streams, and poplar and reach Kagbeni, which is a gateway to Upper Mustang. After lunch in Kagbeni we will continue trekking to Jomsom on the windy trail of Kali Gandaki valley. Jomsom is a strong windy little town in a cold valley. Overnight stay in Jomsom.
The flight to reach Pokhara is spectacular; we fly while looking at views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges and over the deepest gorge in the world. We have full day at Pokhara to enjoy its beauty. We can take a boat ride in the serene waters of the Phewa lake with the reflection of the Fishtail Mountain on its waters We can also explore the various interesting places like Mahendra Cave, David’s fall etc. Overnight in Pokhara.
Another short flight will take you back to Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. The day at leisure to rest, perhaps catch up on some last minute shopping or explore any sights you missed during your first day in Kathmandu.
