Trip Overview
Just 40 km away from the noise and the crowd of the Kathmandu city, lies Namo Buddha village. Namo Buddha is situated at the lap of a small hill at the edge of a forest in Panauti of Kavre District. The main stupa and the at the hill top is the world heritage monuments of UNESCO and also there is a monastery called Thrangu Tashi Yangtse monastery from where we can have the stunning view of the mountains and the green luscious forests.
According to Buddhist sutras, Lord Buddha in his previous life was born as Prince Mahasattva, youngest son of King Maharatha. One day when he was passing through forest with his brothers, to hunt, they saw a tigress and her cubs who could barely move due to starvation. Seeing their pitiable situation, the kind Prince Mahasattva went back to the tigress and offered them his flesh and blood to eat. Later, his two brothers returned back to the same place, but they saw only his bones and hairs. In his honour, the King and Queen buried a small casket covered with seven kinds of jewels in which they laid his bones and built a stupa over the place which became very popular among the Buddhist and Hindu people. The whole area is covered with sacred flags on the top of a small hill.
Though Namo Buddha is very near to the city hustle, it still has the typical Nepali traditions and vultures. Surrounded by green hills covered with luscious forests, it radiates a peaceful and serene ambience making it the perfect destination for meditation.
