Located on the heart of the Kathmandu valley, Durbar Square is the prime place to observe our rich history and culture. Showcasing the ancient temples and palaces, Durbar Square is also famous for being the home of Living Goddess, Kumari. Here a girl chosen from Newar community is worshipped as the reincarnation of Hindu Goddess, Durga.
The place includes museums and other places which are opened for visitors. There is no entry fee so anyone can stroll in this area and can observe the culture and history of Nepal.
To reach here, one can take the public transport that reaches Ratnapark and have to walk for 5 minutes.
Swayambhunath Stupa
Situated at the top hill of the Kathamndu valley, Swayambhunath gives a stunning and mesmerizing view of the valley. The main attraction of this place is a beautiful white stupa with fascinating Buddha eyes and a shimmering golden spire. Surrounded by lustrous green tress, the area is filled with many small shrines, temples monasteries etc.
The name “Swayambhu”, means “Self-Created” and legend says the religious site came into existence more than 2,000 years ago when the valley was created out of a primeval lake. Around the area we can get familiar with rich Buddhist cultures.
We can take the public transport to reach here. And have to climb the thousand steps to rich at the top.
Pashupatinath Temple
One of the most holy temple of the Hindu people, Pashupatinath is situated on the bank of Holy river, Bagmati and is the principle temple of Lord Shiva. There are many different temples and statues of different Hindu gods and goddess which out shows our spiritual and cultural richness. Within the temple premises, we can see the unique cremation culture of the Hindu dead people.
We can take the publich transport and step down at Gaushala and walk for 5 minutes to reach the Pashupatinath Temple.
Boudhanath Stupa
Boudhanath stupa is considered as one of the largest stupas in South Asia and is the significant place in Buddhism and architecture. Located on an ancient trade route that entered from Tibet, Boudhanath stupa is a truly falls on the top list of the most stunning tourist places in Kathmandu with all its rich architecture and the rituals we encounter here. During evening time with all the burning butter lamps and different incenses, Boudhanath stupa glows like a star which is the beautiful site to behold.
